Dental Bleaching

Dental Bleaching

Dental bleaching is one of the most preferred aesthetic applications of the past years to make a healthy mouth look aesthetically beautiful. Dental bleaching is the process carried out by the dentist with the help of tooth whitening gels to eliminate the existing discoloration in tooth enamel or discoloration caused by additional reasons such as intense tea, coffee and cigarette consumption over time

Is it necessary to have your teeth bleached?

A healthy mouth and good looking white teeth are important when communicating with people. In addition to deformities, darker and neglected teeth can affect your social life negatively. Although natural teeth whitening methods such as tooth whitening with carbonate, whitening toothpaste and a tooth whitening pen that you can apply at home provide a certain amount of whitening, it is possible to have healthier and whiter teeth with bleaching, which is a professional tooth whitening process carried out by your dentist.

THE PROCESS

The process involves the application of a whitening gel on the teeth that is then activated by a safe and cool blue-light lamp. Only your teeth will be exposed for the entire procedure (gums are protected with a liquid wax barrier) so you can rest assured that you will not be subjected to any harmful rays. The whole process is usually over in about an hour and is broken up into a few application sessions during the single in-office treatment. In between each session, the initial gel is removed from the teeth and a new coat of the whitening gel is applied, along with a de-sensitizing solution.

THE RESULTS

Getting your teeth professionally cleaned prior to the Zoom! whitening procedure is highly recommended for the most optimal results. There is no specific number on how many shades lighter your teeth will be, but some of our clients’ teeth have gotten up to eight shades whiter after the procedure. The results will always vary from patient to patient but your teeth will not look artificially white as Zoom! works by restoring the natural color of your teeth. You will be able to notice a difference in your teeth immediately once the procedure is completed.

AFTER THE PROCEDURE

We recommend avoiding foods and drinks with heavy dyes and colors for a few days after the teeth whitening procedure. An easy thing to remember is that if the food or drink can stain a white paper cup or a white t-shirt then you should probably avoid it. This includes drinks such as coffee, tea, green juice drinks, and colored sodas, to name a few. If you cannot avoid consuming these drinks then it is best to drink them with a straw, chase with water and brush teeth shortly afterward. Typically, maintenance bleaching trays are offered with the service and are suggested for a week after for optimal results and for regular maintenance. A small number of our patients have experienced some sensitivity after the procedure but this can easily be relieved with Sensodyne or other toothpastes or mouth rinses designed for sensitivity. Aspirin and other anti-inflammatory medication also works well to soothe the sensitivity. Additionally, in advance of your appointment, you may also take anti-inflammatory pain relievers as a preventative anti-inflammatory measure. If you live in the New York City area and are looking for a safe, easy, and effective way to whiten your teeth, Zoom! Teeth Whitening is your answer. At the New York Center for Cosmetic Dentistry, we have helped many of our patients get a much brighter and younger looking smile with Zoom! Teeth Whitening. THE QUICK WHITE

Looking for a full-service tooth whitening treatment before a date, job interview, or a wedding? The Quick White employs the same Zoom! technology, including the same whitening lamp and the whitening agent. The only difference being that it is a single 15-minute session compared to the 45-minute full Zoom! treatment. It is an in and out “lunchtime” procedure used as a touch-up/maintenance visit either between full treatments, coupled with or without your bi-annual cleaning, or as a quick and affordable tooth brightening service for those who are not looking for the longer term results.

Can anyone have their teeth bleached?

As long as you do not have teeth and gum disease, you can have your teeth bleached, provided that you pass a dentist’s examination. If you have tooth decay or a similar problem or have had gum problems for a long time, these problems should be resolved first. You can have the teeth bleaching procedure afterwards. Those who definitely should not get their teeth bleached are pregnant women, nursing mothers and children who have not completed their development yet.
